Vermin Damage to insulation
Since this home is literally in the woods, the two previous owners had a very bad problem with critters; especially possum and mice. The insulation underneath is almost totally destroyed and where the floors were weakened by water leaks they actually chewed through the floor to get into the home! I plan to remove what's left of the underbelly insulation. Since we don't plan on using the home in the coldest months I'm not going to re-insulate it. When, or if, we ever install central air, I may insulate just the ducts.
Next, once all the plumbing mods and floor repairs are completed we plan on leveling out the dirt, putting heavy plastic sheeting down then spreading a couple inches of pea gravel under there. That should help with the moisture problem (which encourages a lot of unhealthy mold growth under there with its musty smell) along with adding a couple of extra vents on each side.
